Inspired by the success of the just-concluded Formula One Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix,Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is aiming a similar impact for the upcoming Super GT International Series Malaysia ,which will be held at the circuit from 20th to 22nd June 2008.The GT race in Sepang would be Round 4 of nine-round Super GT International Series 2008,where eight rounds are held in Japan.First organized in 2000 as an experimental project by Japan GT Association,the event was an instant success and within the third year,the race in Sepang was officially installed as one of the championship rounds;offering vital points for the teams and drivers in their quest of winning the overall crown.Speaking at the Super GT Pre-Launch Media Conference at Equatorial Hotel,Kuala Lumpur,SIC General Manager Datuk Azmi Murad said they are expecting an attendance of 65,000 spectators for the 2008 Super GT International Series Malaysia.He explained Super GT is a world class motor racing event similar to F1 but with its own kind of appeal and unlike Formula One,the Super GT race features road cars which can be owned and seen travelling along te normal roads.Therefore, fans can relate themselves better to Super GT races compared to Formula One,where the racing cars are not available for sale or personal ownership.The competing cars comprising all the top sports car models available in the market from the popular Japanese brands of Toyota, Nissan,Honda to European household names of Ferrari,Lamborghini, McLaren Mercedes and BMW.Apart from the main Super GT race ,fans also would be treated to the thrills and excitement from four support races-Asian Touring Car Series,the Asian Formula Renault,Asian GT Challenge,Formula V6 Asia Series and the Aston Martin Cup.Mr Azlan Akil, SIC Advertising and Promotions Manager said 2008 Super GT will promise racing fans the opportunity of catching the actions from the sky at several comfortable hot-air balloons strategically located at vantage points. Mr Azlan also said that SIC would be bringing in its 'secret weapons'-GT Queens Kotomi Kurosawa and Ayami Sasaki to meet the fans at Super GT roadshows.Main Grandstand tickets are priced at RM150 while the K1 Granstand seats are priced at RM80(first 5000 purchases of the Main Grandstand tickets and first 5000 purchases for the K1 Grandstand tickets would be entitled to 50 percent discount).Ticket can be purchased by caling Ticket Hotline at 603-87782222 or via internet at http://www.malaysiangp.com.my/
