Malaysia’s leading mobile operator Maxis Communications Berhad (“Maxis”)recently handed out the Maxis Scholarship for Excellence Awards (MSEA) to 31 scholarship recipients in the present of Malaysian Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Khaled Nordin and Maxis’ Chief Financial Officer,Ms Rossana Rashidi,at a specially organised awards ceremony in Westin Hotel,Kuala Lumpur .The 31 outstanding Malaysians will be able to pursue their studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, at their university of choice.
During the awards presentation,Dato' Seri Khaled said,"Maxis Scholarship for Excellence Awards" is a positive step towards contributing to the country’s human capital, which is crucial to counter the effects of globalisation. Efforts such as this help the nation build a progressive and strong generation of future leaders.”MSEA is divided into three categories, that is, the postgraduate programme for high achievers; the undergraduate programme for Maxis postpaid customers, and the undergraduate programme for children of Maxis employees. There are five allocations a year for the postgraduate awards.
In her speech Ms Rossana Rashidi, Maxis’ Chief Financial Officer said, “Since the inception of the programme in 2005 and over the next three years, Maxis have invested close to RM50 million into the Maxis Scholarship for Excellence programme and endowed scholarships to 18 postgraduate Malaysian students, and 44 undergraduate students. Maxis previously presented the undergraduate awards to 19 recipients on 24 April 2009.
