Scientex Launches Scientex Foundation to Commemorate 40th Anniversary




Scientex Berhad has recently hosted a grand GalaDinner at a leading hotel in celebration of its 40th Anniversary this year.At the same time, Scientex Berhad has also officially launched Scientex Foundation, a non-profit charitable organisation set up by Scientex to carry out itscorporate responsibility activities.Scientex Foundation is a charitable organisation focused on providing funding and support for initiatives pertaining to healthcare and the environment. .Present to launch the event were Tan Sri Dato' Mohd Sheriff Mohd Kassim Chairman of Scientex Berhad,Mr Lim Teck Meng-Deputy Executive Chairman of Scientex Berhad and Mr Lim Peng Jin- Managing Director of Scientex Berhad.Themed “40 Years of Growth and Achievements” the 40th Anniversary Celebration appropriately reflects Scientex Berhad’s 40-year journey with numerous achievements, accomplishments and triumphs over new challenges.
Founded by Mr. Lim Teck Meng in 1968, Scientex started off as a modest manufacturer of PVC leather and sheeting company in Johor Bahru. Today, Scientex is focused on two core businesses, namely high-end industrial packaging manufacturing and property development. Scientex has built up a reputation as one of the leading manufacturers ofstretch film in the Asia Pacific region, exporting its products to over 60 countriesworldwide.The Company’s revenue base has grown from strength to strength, with the latest audited revenue for financial year ended July 2008 of RM656 million, and profit after tax exceeding RM50 million. Its employee strength has also grown from 40 in 1968 to 1,200 currently.Today, the Scientex brand name is well recognised and received, both in the packaging industry and the property development market, a position earned through thecompany’s resolute reliability, product quality and timely delivery.
Earlier, on 11 November 2008, the Foundation with an initial financial support of RM1,000,000 from Scientex Berhad has signed Collaboration Agreements with four NGOs to carry out pre-identified activities . The four organisations are Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA), National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia (ADFM) and the Malaysian Plastics Manufacturers Association (MPMA) . During the official launch Mr. Lim Peng Jin, Managing Director of Scientex Berhad said Through Scientex Foundation,we hope to promote healthy living and create greater awareness in the importance of taking care of our health as well as taking care of the environment around us. We can all play a role in helping to make this world a better and happier place to live in. The Scientex family is happy to play a meaningful role in contributing to the well-being and betterment of society,”. The establishment of Scientex Foundation is very much in line with the Company’s motto of being “healthy, friendly and happy” in the workplace, marketplace and community.
